The Hazard Team was formed by Lt. Tuvok of the USS Voyager while they were lost in the Delta Quadrant. Having a limited crew with no chance for reinforcements, Voyager's senior staff determined that they needed a specialized team to handle the more dangerous situations and assembled an elite force of security personnel. Under the guidance of Lt. Tuvok, the Hazard Team received special military training in infiltration, combat, stealth and weapons usage.

Once the Voyager was returned home, the concept of the Hazard Team spread throughout the Fleet. There are currently Hazard Teams serving aboard most starships in the forward areas.
